American indie developer Micah McGonigal created a parody survival horror game called Fundamentals of Education and Learning by Baldi in 2018. It goes by many names, including Baldi's Basics and Baldi's Basics Classic. The game's bad graphics and ideas are reminiscent to Sonic's Schoolhouse, IM Meen, and 3D Dinosaur Adventure, all of which were instructional video games in the 90s. On March 31, 2018, Baldi's Basics was first released as a beta version for Windows and macOS. The whole game, including all features and the main gameplay, was released for early access on June 12, 2020, under the name Baldi's Basics Plus.
In order to avoid being late and "rehearsing," the protagonist's friend had to ask the protagonist to get seven notebooks that he had left at the local school. In the beginning, the player encounters a math teacher named Baldi. Whenever the player finds a notepad, Baldi will give him three simple math problems to do. Players will be rewarded with prizes if they are able to pass all of these exams. Also, Baldi is a very irritated character; if the player does a task wrong, the teacher will start chasing after them. The protagonist has to keep avoiding other students and obstacles while searching for every other notepad. In a different ending, the player must defeat a distorted Baldi and another hidden character who makes them damage the game before it ends automatically if they choose to answer every question incorrectly.
